KloakIt 3.0 Active Help
Advanced ConfigurationThese settings allow you to change your password, change the page you want normal people to see, set random text to appear on your entrance pages, disable or enable auto-updating, set your time modifier, and uninstall KloakIt. Disabling cloakingTo disable cloaking, click the "Disable Cloaking" button. This will set KloakIt to show your optimized entrance pages to normal people as well as search engines. To re-enable cloaking, click the "Enable Cloaking" button which will be there if you have cloaking disabled. Changing your passwordTo change your password, simply type your new password in the area provided and click the submit button. Changing your normal pageTo change your normal page settings, click the "Change Normal Page Settings" button. A screen will come up with an item already filled in. It is the complete URL to the page you want people to see when they visit a cloaked URL. You can make the change you want and click the "Make Chages" button to make them happen. The "normal page" is the page that you show to human visitors to your cloaked pages. Normally, you would just use a regular URL here. However, with certain affiliate programs have trouble redirecting the surfer's browser to the page (because they perform an additional redirect), so a special type of URL is used. If you test a cloaked page as a human visitor and end up with a blank screen, try putting "redirect: " at the beginning of your normal page URL, like this: redirect: http://www.whatever.com/a.pl?parameters Doing this will cause KloakIt to redirect the browser to the affiliate page instead of acting as a proxy like it normally does. Customizing individual cloaked pagesThis feature allows advanced configuration of individual cloaked pages. You have the ability to specify a different "normal page" for each individual cloaked page, as well as the ability to specify a custom template which will override the regular template. When you click the "Customize Individual Cloaked Pages" button, you will see a screen which will list your cloaked pages by file name, along with some other information. Below is an example: web-promotion.htm#http://www.yourdomain.com/webpro.html#webpromotion.template#1 The first entry means that the cloaked file will use the URL http://www.yourdomain.com/webpro.html as the normal page, the template webpromotion.template will be used to generate the entrance page shown to search engines, and the random number seed for the page will be "1". The # symbol is used as a separator between the fields. Each cloaked page has its own entry on the list. If you delete or add a cloaked page, it will automatically be removed from the list. The second entry means that the cloaked file website-design.htm will use the default normal page that all the other cloaked files use, but will use the custom template called website-design.template. Since the middle field between the two # symbols is empty, the default setting is used. This entry has a random number seed of "2". The third entry means that the cloaked file search-engine-promotion.htm will use the URL http://www.searchpromote.com as the normal page, but will use the default template for generating the entrance page shown to search engines. This cloaked page's random number seed is "3". If you don't what any custom changes to a cloaked page, then don't do anything for the listing for that page. You can see that in my example above, the last two lines just have the filename of the cloaked pages, followed by three # symbols and the random number seed. Remember, the # symbols are used as separators, and if there is no custom information, then you should just have three # symbols and the random number seed following the filename. What's the random number seed? A random number seed is computer-nerd-talk for a number that helps a computer program generate random sequences. KloakIt uses random number seeds to make the optimized text you show spiders vary by page, even though it is template based. Your uses of random text, random links, and secondary keywords are all affected by the random number seed. The random number seeds are automatically assigned by the KloakIt control panel. Each page is assigned its own random number seed. You can edit them if you like, but it is completely optional. To learn how to create your custom templates, see below. Creating and editing custom templatesYou can create, edit or delete custom templates by clicking the "Create or Edit Custom Templates" button. When you click the button, you will be shown a list of your custom templates. If you have none, this will be indicated. At the bottom of the list is an area to type the name of a new custom template if you want to create one. You can select a custom template for editing or deleting by clicking one of the radio buttons next to your choice's name. Once you have selected a custom template, you can delete it by clicking the delete button, or edit it by clicking the edit button. If you create or edit a template, you will be shown a screen where you can type the HTML for the template. I think it is best to actually write your template using your favorite text editor or webpage creation software, and once you are done, copy it and paste it into the KloakIt control panel. When naming the custom templates, keep in mind that the filename extension of .template is automatically assigned. Do not type a filename extension. To learn how to assign custom templates to your cloaked pages, see above. Creating or modifying your index pageYou can set up an index.htm file to load as the default cloaked page for your directory. Click on the "Create or Modify index.htm Page" button to set one up. If an index.htm file already exists, you will be asked to confirm your choice. Then, you will be asked for the primary keyword phrase for your index.htm file. If you ever want to change the primary keyword phrase, simply click on the "Create or Modify index.htm Page" button and change the phrase. Later, if you want to delete the index.htm page, delete it as you would any other entrance page. If you already have an index.html page (an uncloaked web page) in the same directory as KloakIt, this could cause interference with the cloaked index.htm file. Creating a hallway pageYou can create a hallway page to display a list of links to all your other cloaked pages. This page will have only the list of links on it. This is a way to allow search engine spiders to find your cloaked pages on their own and maybe attain higher rankings. The hallway page will be named "sitemap.htm", which means the word "sitemap" is reserved. You should not make an entrance page using just the word "sitemap" unless you intend it to be your hallway page. The only exception to this rule is that if you assign a custom template to the sitemap.htm file, the custom template will be used instead of the sitemap function. When you create a hallway page using the sitemap function, the "title" of the page contained within the HTML title tags will be the same as your index.htm page (assuming you have one). If you do not have an index.htm page, there will be no text in the title. Disabling link list on entrance pagesBy default, KloakIt is set to display a list of links to all your other cloaked pages at the bottom of every entrance page. This is to allow the search engines to spider these links and hopefully obtain higher rankings for these pages. You can turn this feature off by clicking on the "Disable List of Links on Entrance Page" button. To turn it back on, click on the "Enable List of Links on Entrance Page" button. Link list textBy default, the list of links referred to above displays the primary keyword of the cloaked page of the link. You can change this to display the URL of the cloaked page instead. Click on the "Use URL of Cloaked Page as Link Text" to do this. To switch back to the default, click the "Use Primary Keyword as Link Text" button. Protecting your cloaked pages from GoogleThe search engine Google is known for caching web pages its spiders index. This means that regular people could see your entrance pages if they visit Google and see your cached page. Of course, I've anticipated this and Kloakit can protect your pages from Google's caching feature. The protection feature is a special meta tag KloakIt will insert in your cloaked page when Google visits, called the NOCACHE meta tag. It is automatically enabled when you install KloakIt. If you click the "Do not use NOCACHE meta tage for Google" caching protection will be turned off. You can always turn this on if you want and switch back to using the NOCACHE meta tag by clicking the "Use NOCACHE meta tag for Google" button. Excluding specific IPsYou can add IPs to an "exclude list" that will keep those IPs from seeing your optimized pages meant for search engines. To get to the exclude list, click the "Edit Custom IP Exclude List" button. You can insert or delete IPs. By default, the list is empty. To save the list, click the "Save Custom IP Exclusion List" button. Random text settingsYou can have text generated randomly on your entrance pages to make sure that the entrance pages search engines see aren't too much alike. To do so, enter text in the text area below. You should enter several complete paragraphs. Each paragraph should be on a line of its own. After you have entered your "random text", you can insert #randomtext# codes into your templates to use it. Anywhere a #randomtext# code appears in your template, the code will be replaced with one line from your random text listing. It is probably best to have at least 20 lines. You can also insert blank lines. I recommend that you have several blank lines. Sprinkle the #randomtext# codes throughout all your templates. Use them liberally. The #randomtext# code causes the same line to be loaded every time the page is viewed by a search engine. If you want a different random line to be loaded every time, you can use a #randomtextdynamic# code. Random links to cloaked pagesYou can insert a randomly chosen link to one of your cloaked pages by using a #randomlink# tag. You can repeat the same URL by using the #randomlinktext# tag. For example: <a href="#randomlink#">#randomlinktext#</a> You can also extract the primary keyword to the random link by using a #randomlinkkeyword# tag. For example: <a href="#randomlink#>#randomlinkkeyword#</a> Setting random page linksYou can insert a randomly selected URL from a list of links on your entrance page by using the #randompage# code. To edit your list of random links, click on the "Set Random Page Links" button. Automatic updatingKloakIt is set to notify you when there is an update available. When there is, you will be notified on your main control panel. There will be a button you can click when an update is available, and the update will be automatically installed when you click the button. You can turn off auto-updating by clicking the "Disable Patch Message" button on the advanced configuration settings control panel. If you decide to turn it back on, click on the "Enable Patch Message" button. Updating IP listsKloakIt will automatically update its lists of IP addresses (if you access your control panel) once per day. If there is an update available, the first time you access your control panel that day, you will be notified that an update has taken place. If no update is available, or you are accessing your control panel after the first time for that day, no update will happen. You can shut off this automatic updating by clicking the "Turn IP Updating Off" button in the advanced configuration settings control panel. You can turn it back on by clicking the "Turn IP Updating On" button. Automatic updating of IP addresses will not affect any addresses that you add to the control panel, but addresses you delete from the master list will be added with the next update. I recommend that you leave automatic updating turned on. You can also force an update to your IP addresses if you click the "Perform IP Address Update Now" button. Switching to the .cgi file extension for cloaked filesFor Windows servers and Cobalt RaQ servers, both of which have difficulty using the .htm extension for CGI scripts, there is an option to use the .cgi extension for the cloaked files. On Windows servers, this option is automatically chosen when KloakIt is installed. For Cobalt RaQ servers, you must choose this option yourself after installation. To make the choice, click the "Use .cgi Extension for Cloaked Pages" button on the advanced configuration settings screen of the control panel. To switch back to using the .htm extension, click the "Use .htm Extension for Cloaked Pages" button. Time modifierIf your webserver is in a different time zone than where you are located, you may find it handy to insert a "time modifier". For instance, if you are located in New York, and your server is in California, you would insert "-3" and click the "Set Time Modifier" button. If you are in California and your server is in New York, the time modifier would be set to "3". This setting is completely optional. All it will affect is the access time displayed in your log listings. Reverting to the previous versionIf, for some reason, you want to revert to the previous version of KloakIt, you can do so by clicking the "Revert to Previous Version" button. If this button isn't on your advanced control panel, then you do not have the option to revert. You may only revert to the most recent version. If you revert, clicking the button again will not really do anything. UninstallationThe last option of this menu is to uninstall KloakIt. If you click this button, you are given one chance to change your mind, then the uninstall process begins. KloakIt will completely erase itself and display a list of files and directories deleted. |
