KloakIt 3.0 Active Help

Strategies

Here are a few strategies I picked up while promoting websites using KloakIt over the years. I hope you can get some use out of them.

Picking keywords

It's relatively easy to pick a set of rarely used keywords and get them highly ranked. There's no competition. But then again, you won't get many hits on your website that way, either.

Search engine placement is key to seeing good results from your website. But don't go overboard wasting your time using obscure keywords. Here are some suggestions about making your keyword list.

Sit down and make a list of the products or services your site sells. If you're not selling anything, fine... make a list of the reasons why people would want to visit your site. The trick here is to imagine your customer/visitor and what they are looking for.

A good resource to come up with relevent keywords you may never think of your self is JimTools.com. They have a really cool online application that will come up with keywords relevent to a phrase you type in.

Now take each item on your list and come up with synonyms and misspelled versions of those keywords and phrases.

You should have a pretty long list by now. Let's make it even longer. For verbs in your list, come up with past/present tenses and list them. For nouns in your list, come up with pluralized versions and list them.

Your list should have tripled in size by now. We're almost there. Now take the words in your list and capitalize the first letter and add those to your list.

You now have a list of every conceivable keyword someone interested in what you have to offer might type into the search box of a search engine. Now what?

Pare it down a little. If your keyword list is TOO long, you'll run into trouble. Remember that certain search engines (Excite comes to mind) limit the number of pages they'll index. Take out the words/phrases that you don't think someone will search for.

This goes against the common advice that "promotion gurus" are spouting off these days, but keep this in mind: come up with too many keywords and you'll spend ALL your time creating entrance pages and submitting them, tweaking them, checking their stats, etc. After all, web promotion isn't all glamorous brainstorming... some of it is hard work, too.

Template suggestions

Read the templates that came with KloakIt 3.0. They are filled with suggestions on getting ranked with individual search engines. Don't be afraid to experiment, though.

A good tool to scientifically evaluate your templates is the Keyword Density Analyzer (GRKDA). It will tell you the exact density percentage of all the keywords on your template, allowing you to design your templates with specific goals in mind. The real pros all make good use of this tool.

Advanced Tip: you can install KloakIt on your site more than once by doing it in subdirectories. I say this because this is a way to test multiple templates for the same search engine. Sneaky but effective.

Submission strategies

Don't submit too often or too many pages at once. Try to keep your submissions down to once a month or so. Also, don't submit more than 10 URLs at any one time to any engine. I recommend one URL per day per engine. If you have 30 cloaked URLs to submit, you can just rotate them monthly.

I recommend submitting by hand (many engines require you to pay now to submit). If you don't have the time to submit by hand, then I recommend using Search Engine Commando to submit your URLs. You can get a copy of Search Engine Commando here.

The best thing about Search Engine Commando is that it submits only one URL fom each of your domains per day. You just leave it running and it will submit them for you automatically. This way, you don't get banned from the search engines for submitting too many URLs from one domain in a day.

Search Engine Commando can also be used to check site rankings and analyze your templates.
